TVC Discharge Upgrade Program

Thank you for your interest in the Discharge Upgrade Program! We connect servicemembers with volunteer attorneys to help with unjust discharge ratings.
We serve those with Other Than Honorable discharges due to:
- Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)*
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)*, or
- Military sexual trauma (MST)* - (Those with General ‘under honorable conditions’ discharges may also qualify)
- Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
- Women Veterans may qualify for additional legal help here.
*Those with mental health conditions require a medical diagnosis before applying to our Discharge Upgrade program. See below for details and resources.
Because there are a limited number of trained attorneys able to take on cases for free, service members and Veterans who do not meet all of our criteria will receive referrals to other legal resources, as well as information they can use to apply for an upgrade on their own.
Please visit the below links for more information and resources about the Discharge Upgrade Program.
Potential clients must complete the online intake form and cooperate with complete records review.
After reviewing your records, we will notify you if we can match your case with one of our volunteer attorneys.
*Please Note: Servicemembers whose discharge rating was unjust due to PTSD, TBI, or MST must already have a medical diagnosis in order to qualify for our free legal services. Servicemembers without a diagnosis yet can access free mental health services through:
Vet Centers - specializing in combat veterans and survivors of military sexual trauma (MST).
- These are independent from VA medical centers/hospital.
- Vet Centers do NOT require an honorable discharge.
