About Us
The Veterans Consortium is a national nonprofit providing Veterans across the country with FREE legal services to help them get the benefits they earned.
We partner with America’s premier law firms, top corporations, and best law schools, and train their attorneys to help Veterans with:
- Denied VA benefits cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC)
- Honor Restoration for “Other Than Honorable” discharges related to PTSD, mental health crises, and Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Women Veterans’ issues, including Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
- Citizenship through Service
- General legal advice and referral clinics
After they are trained, The Veterans Consortium provides our volunteer attorneys with expert mentorship and robust resources, ensuring both volunteers and their Veterans get the best possible experience and outcome.
Our volunteer attorneys expertly handle cases large and small with the highest level of professionalism and dedication, achieving an astounding 83% success rate.
Beyond the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, our volunteer attorneys also litigate cases that are appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
As a mission-driven nonprofit, The Veterans Consortium will never turn cases away based on the size of any potential payout, will never charge Veterans a fee, and will never take any part of their future benefits.

Our Structure
The Pro Bono Program is governed by an Executive Board of up to nine members. Four of the members represent the Consortium partners, The American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the National Veterans Legal Services Program and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the remaining members are drawn from the private bar.
Our History
To help ensure Veterans receive the benefits they earned, in 1992, the Veterans Consortium was founded by:
- U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims
- The American Legion
- Disabled American Veterans
- National Veterans Legal Services Program, and
- Paralyzed Veterans of America
Over the past 30 years, the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program has become the leading national 501(c)(3) charity providing free legal services in federal venues for Veterans in need.
More recently, the organization has expanded its programs and services to include:
- Honor Restoration for “Other Than Honorable” discharges related to PTSD, mental health crises, and Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Women Veterans’ issues, including Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
- Citizenship through Service Applications
- General legal help and referral clinics
These programs are made possible in part by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Trust, the John and Daria Barry Foundation, and the District of Columbia Bar Foundation.
